Introduction

Eczema, which also known as atopic dermatitis, is a skin condition whereby patches of skin become red, cracked, itchy and inflamed. Do you know that almost 1 in 7 of Malaysia children are suffering from eczema? This chronic condition can present in children as young as two to three months old. For some children, the situation goes away by the age of two. However, about half of the people who had eczema as a child will have it as an adult.

No parent wants their child to suffer. Although there is no cure for eczema, fortunately, it is still manageable. Besides prescription treatment, there are five ways to relieve itchiness or prevent flare-ups.

Keep the skin moisturized

After a bath, immediately apply some lotions or moisturizers on the child’s skin while it is still moist. However, avoid lotions and moisturizers which contains alcohol that can make the skin drier.

Avoid skin irritants

Avoid dressing the child in harsh or irritating clothes. During bathing, use fragrance-free body cleansers.
Use cotton sheets and soft, cotton blankets.

Avoid allergic triggers

Avoid those foods which the child allergy with. If the child has any food allergies, the food might play a major role in causing eczema.

Control the itching

Keep the child’s fingernails short, because long nails are more likely to injure the child’s skin when he or she scratches.

Supplementing with probiotics

Probiotics are live microorganisms that confer health benefits to human when taking in sufficient amounts. Consumption of probiotics could protect against immune dysfunction and reduce inflammation. These are the two critical factors in the development of eczema.

The balance of bacteria in digestive system is one factor affecting the immune system. Try out BiO-LiFE AB Junior Pre & Pro!
