Funtastic Holiday: What Shall I do?
Feb 27, 2019
Introduction
Hooray! The school holiday is just around the corner! This is the best time for you to take a break and have a lot of fun with your kids. However, thinking ways to keep the little ones entertained during the school off week is quite challenging. With tons of work and deadlines to be met, sometimes we are out of a chance to plan for a family trip. Well, for busy parents out there, if you are tired of hearing your kids grumbling about boredom, here are five effortless ideas for a funtastic holiday which your kids will appreciate, at a little cost!
Swimming
All the kids love swimming! Whether is going to the small pool or the big water parks, they will absolutely enjoy immersing themselves in the water.
Picnic at the beach
As of how we can’t resist the breeze, the kids can’t resist the beach. They will enjoy jumping in the waves, building the sand castles, and flying the kite!
Water gun fight
It is fun to play the water gun fight in the backyard. If you live in a high rise building, you can play it at the nearby park or simply at the beach!
Jungle trekking
Taking your kids for a walk in nature is a healthy family bonding activity. This gives them the opportunity to explore and appreciate the natural world.
Camping
If you have a tent, you just need to find a place to set it up. Be it in your backyard, by the waterfall, or on the sandy beach, your kids will be happy to sleep under the stars.
These ideas are some of the ways to encourage your kids engage in physical activity. This is aligned with Key Message 5 in the Malaysia Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents – Be Physically Active Everyday1. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), children and youth aged 5 to 17 years should accumulate at least 60 minutes of physical activity every single day2. Regular physical activity is very important in order to promote lifelong well-being and reduce the risk of developing certain health conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and obesity3,4.
